Understand the cover behind your project
Clear documentation matters as much as a reassuring badge. Whether you are improving windows, doors and conservatories or another part of the home, your proposal should explain which product guarantees, installation terms and completion documents apply to the actual work being carried out.
The same standards apply to garden room design and build projects, from the proposed structure and glazing through to installation terms and handover documentation.
Product guarantees
These relate to the supplied system or component. Check the manufacturer, covered items, duration, exclusions, care requirements and any registration process.
Installation cover
Workmanship terms should explain the installation covered and how concerns are raised. They should not be confused with a separate manufacturer’s product warranty.
Project documentation
Relevant approvals, structural information and completion documents depend on the project. Identify the responsible parties and the documents to expect before work starts.
Check what a claim actually covers
A long guarantee may cover a board’s structure but not every aspect of colour, staining or installation. A glazing product claim may relate to a particular configuration rather than every window or door in a range.
Ask for the relevant written terms and keep them with the named product specification. A general website statement should not replace the information for your specific purchase.
Industry scheme participation and certification should also be confirmed for the business and the type of work involved. We do not assume one accreditation applies to every home-improvement service.
Useful questions before you proceed
Which company provides each guarantee? What starts the cover period? Does the product need registering? What maintenance is required? Who should be contacted first if there is a concern?
For work requiring approvals or completion documentation, establish who arranges each part and whether the relevant costs are included. Do not rely on the phrase compliant system as a substitute for the project’s own requirements.
The answers should form part of the proposal or handover information, not remain as assumptions.
Keep a simple handover file
Retain the agreed scope, invoices, product names and finishes, applicable warranty terms, care instructions and any relevant certificates. Photographs of the completed project and details of agreed changes can also be helpful.
Follow the care guidance for the material installed. Decking, cladding, glazing and roof systems have different maintenance needs, and using an unsuitable treatment can affect appearance or cover.
For an aftercare enquiry, send the project address, installation date if known, a short description and relevant photographs. The first step is to understand the issue and identify the appropriate route.
Read the Crafted guarantee
Our written guarantee sets out the cover for PVCu window and door frames, sealed glazing units and mechanical components. Cover periods and exclusions vary by item; it is not a blanket guarantee for every service on this website.
PVCu frames: welded joints and excessive frame distortion.
Sealed glazing units: failure of the hermetic seal.
Locks, hinges, handles and other covered mechanical components.
Subject to the full written terms, exclusions and maintenance conditions. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
HANDOVER FILE
Know what to keep when the work is complete
A simple project file makes aftercare easier and avoids relying on memory later.
