FAQs
Answers to some of the most common questions about aluminium windows and doors.
What's the difference between uPVC and aluminium windows?
uPVC is the most popular choice for UK homes — it’s affordable, energy efficient, and available in a wide range of colours. Aluminium is typically used for larger openings and premium projects, offering slim sightlines and a contemporary look. Most homes are best suited to uPVC, but we’ll help you choose the right material for your property.
What's the difference between bifold and sliding doors?
Bifold doors fold and stack to one side, opening up the full width of your space. Sliding doors move across fixed panels and allow for larger uninterrupted glass areas. Both create a strong indoor-outdoor connection, but bifolds give you a wider opening while sliders give you bigger panes of glass.
How long does a window or door installation take?
Most installations are completed within one to two days, depending on the size of the project and the number of units being fitted. Larger installations such as bifold doors or full property re-glazing may take longer. We’ll confirm a clear timeline with you before any work begins.
Do I need planning permission to replace my windows or doors?
In most cases, no. Replacing existing windows and doors falls under permitted development and doesn’t require planning permission. Listed buildings, conservation areas, and certain flats are the main exceptions. We’ll flag any concerns during your consultation.
What colours and finishes are available?
uPVC windows are available in a wide range of colours including white, anthracite grey, black and foiled wood-effect finishes. Aluminium doors are most commonly supplied in anthracite grey, but other RAL colours are available on request. We’ll show you the full range during your consultation.
